Laney Whitcanack is currently the CEO if CORO Northern California. Founded in 1942, CORO provides emerging leaders with the skills and networks to create positive change and to collaborate across the public, private and non-profit sectors.
Previous to CORO, Laney was a technology entrepreneur and executive, serving as Chief Community Officer and the Executive Vice President/General Manager of Content Marketing at Federated Media Publishing, Inc. (FMP). Ms. Whitcanack joined FMP through the acquisition of her software company, BigTent in 2010. Since 2006, BigTent has helped millions of community members and thousands of groups connect and organize. Laney founded BigTent and served as its Chief Operating Officer. She spent the first decade of her career coaching and training hundreds of community leaders from the public, private and non-profit sector, in the US and Mexico.
Active in the community, Laney started the The Princess Project in 2002, which engages thousands of girls and women across California each year in volunteer opportunities. A published author and speaker on entrepreneurship, leadership and community organizing, she was awarded the Jefferson Award for Public Service. Laney received her B.A. from UCLA, her MBA from the Simmons School of Management, and her Ed.M from Harvard University, focused on Adult Leadership Development. She is currently an advisor to several start-up companies and local non-profit organizations.
