Sonja Perkins // Founder & Chairman

Sonja Hoel Perkins is the Founder of Project Glimmer. She started Project Glimmer in 2010 when she realized teenage girls were almost always forgotten at holiday gift drives. She began collecting with her friends and since then, Project Glimmer has given over 130,000 gifts to thousands of girls and women across the US. Sonja has been a venture capitalist since 1989, investing in information technology. In 2015, Worth Magazine ranked Sonja among the Power 100—the most powerful people in global finance.

Sonja is the Managing Director of The Perkins Fund, a boutique venture capital firm in San Francisco.  Prior, she was a Managing Director at Menlo Ventures for 22 years.  She began her career in venture capital as an Investment Analyst for TA Associates and then joined Symantec in Business Development. In 2010, Sonja founded Broadway Angels, an investment group made up of world-class investors and executives who all happen to be women.  While not investing exclusively in women, Broadway Angels has invested in many. Sonja serves as a director of 128 Technology, 3VR, Project Glimmer, The President's Advisory Board at the University of Virginia and The Pristine Mind Foundation.  Sonja has served as a director of many public and private companies and nonprofits including the Western Association of Venture Capitalists (WAVC), the Foundation Board of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation and Meals on Wheels of San Francisco. She is also the past President of the WAVC.

Sonja speaks often at conferences on the topics of venture capital, technology and the importance of diversity of women in finance and technology. Sonja graduated, with Distinction, from the University of Virginia and from the Harvard Business School.
